The trip to Philadelphia helped make Steven a man by informing him on what acctuly goes on. He now knows what his brother has to go through every time he is there.

When Steven gets to the hospital he sees kids of various ages with the same disease as Jeffrey. He knows that it is hard for them as well as the familys of the paients. He knows what his family is going through and knows how hard it is.

Steven meets Samantha. She is a girl his age with the ALL just like Jeffrey. She has been through alot. Most of the time she is at the hospital with no family. After he meets Samantha he matures in a way. He learns to apperciate his family a little more and stops thinking of himself so much.

At the hospital stevon takes care of his brother and learns obout all of the things the docters are doing to help Jeffery with his cancer.
At the hospital steven meets samantha. She is Stevens age and like Jeffery she also has cancer.
Samantha has been playing with Jeffery during his visit to the hospital. Before steven leaves he gives samantha a pair of sticks and a drum lessos. unfochonatly when Steve returned he found out the Samantha had died.
After these avents steven becomes in a way more mature. Not only does he take cair of himself now he takes care of his whole family. Stevens trip to the hospital canged him in meny ways and as the book said "Steven you are a man."

Steven's visit to the hospital in Philadelphia changes him and makes him more of a "man" because for the first time, he actually thought of someone other than himself. His dad also tells Steven that he probablly couldn't go to the concert. You can tell that he is becoming a "man" because he didn't throw a fit when his dad told him.

At the hospital in Philadolphia, Steven gets really upset because he sees lots of people in the same situation as Jeffrey. Steven sees people who look healthier than Jeffrey and people who look worse. He meets one girl in particular that he gets upset about. Her name is Samantha. She is about his age. After he meets her and talks to her, he changes a little because he probably thinks he is lucky in some ways.

I agree with Kayla that going to the hospital in Philadelphis helps Steven know what actually goes on on Jeffrey's trips. I think that this is helping him become a man.

When Steven enters the hospital he sees sick kids everywhere. Anywhere from infants to teenagers and they are all bald just like Jeffery. Some of them are so sick they make Jeffrey look fine. Stevens then knows that he has it a lot easier than every single kid in there with cancer. He also meets a girl named Samantha. He can tell she used to be beautiful, but now she was bald and he could see the pain in her eyes. When Stevens leaves he begins to worry about other people feelings instead of his own. This shows he is turning into a man.

I agree with Elliot. After seeing what goes on at the hospital and meeting Samantha he begins to be a lot more mature.

I agree with Elliott that the trip to the hospital helped him mature in many ways.

When Steven goes to the hospital in Philly, he sees many kids of all ages with cancer. Some of the kids are so sick, that it makes it seem like Jeffery is OK. He is surrounded by sick, bald kids.
I think seeing all this makes Steven realize that he actually has it pretty good. His life is much better than all those patients with cancer. Expecially when he meets a girl named Samantha, that is about his age.
He can tell Sam used to be very pretty before she got ALL.
After his trip to the hospital Steven becomes more of a man, and thinks of other people more than himself.

I agree with Rachael when she said that Steven is also becoming a "Man" when he doesn't throw a fit about his dad not going to the concert. Because before the trip to the hospital, I bet he would have.

When Steven enters the hospital he sees all of the kids that are in pain and have it a lot tougher than him. He also realizes that some of those kids might not make it much farther. He sees kids that are older, just as old, and Jeffrey's age that have it a lot worse than him. Steven even sees the infants who haven't even had a chance at life yet. When Steven sees all those kids he starts thinking of their feelings rather than his. This shows that Steven is really matureing.
When Steven meets Samantha, he finds out that Samantha has ALL just like Jeffrey. Steven also finds out that Samantha only has her mother there with her. Samantha is in deep pain and doesn't even have a sister to be by her side. When Steven heres this he realizes how Jeffrey is greatful for him and how much he needs him. Steven promises Samantha that he will stay by Jeffrey's side which also show that he is turning into more of a man.

Steven's visit to the hospital shows him what Jeffrey and his mom have to go through each time they are there. He sees that there are people of all ages with cancer. He has become more of a "man" because he has thought of someone other than himself.

At the hospital he meets Samantha. She has ALL like Jeffrey and she is his age. She tells Steven that she goes through most of her treatment with no one by her side. She makes Steven promise that he will always be there for Jeffrey. He realizes that he is very lucky to always have family by his side.

When Steven leaves the hospital he realizes that he now cares about someone other than himself.

Maddy S. said...

I agree with Xavier H. Steven now realize how much Jeffrey needs him and that he has it alot easier than some people.

I agree with Elliott K. about that now Steven takes care of his whole family which shows that Steven is really maturing and turning into a "man".

The trip to the hospital changes Steven into a man because now he is aware of everything his brother goes through and how strong he is.

He see's that when the alarms go off and someone is dying, it doesn't even bother Jeffery becayse hes see's it so often and he think's that's sad.

Also, who he meets contributes to the change because Samantha tell's them to always be there for his brother. And he does stay with him.

Aleah S. said...

I agree with Xavier. Steven does now realize how much Jeffrey needs him and that he has it alot easier than some people.

Steven's visit to the hospital made him more of a "man" by helping him realize that others are important to. He sees from his mother that she has done alot for Jeffrey and that there are more kids with problems than just Jeffrey. While he is at the hospital he sees many kids of all ages who have leukemia, some healthier than Jeffrey and others a lot worse. There are infants and some kids older than Steven that suprises him. He also met Samantha, a girl who also has ALL like Jeffrey, who has been in and out of the hospital for four years. He felt sorry for her since she rarely saw her sister due to her ALL and since she was around his age and doing a lot worse than Jeffrey, which helps him realize his family is not the only one with problems.

Rachel is right when she says that for the first time Steven didn't make a big deal out of something he didn't think was right, his father not being able to make it to the concert.

Steven's visit to the hospital changes him and makes him more of a man because he learns what goes on at the hospital and what his mother and Jeffrey go through every time they go there.

When Steven arrives at the hospital he sees children of all ages with cancer. He meets Samantha at the hospital. She is about his age and was beautiful before she got cancer. They get talking and he opens up and tells her things he has not been able to tell anyone besides Mrs. Galley.

When Steven is at the hospital he sees what his mother and Jeffrey go through every time they have to go there. It makes him see what happens and how Jeffrey feels so at home there.

Josie R. said...

I agree with Elliot. Steven does become more of a man after seeing what happens at the hospital.

Steven has changed drasticly throughout the entire book. But i think that the event that changed him the most was the fact that he visted the hospital with Jeffery. Also the fact that he met Samantha, the girl about his age who has ALL. She was just standing there talking on her phone like nothing was wrong. The fact that he gave her his drum sticks makes him a man, and also the fact that he took so much care of Jeffery made him a man.

When Steven visits the hospital in Philadelphia he turns into more of a man because he's finally informed and knows what's going on in Jeffy's hospital life. I think that Steven handled the situation very well and that mad him very "man-like" in his family's eyes. He saw all these childeren, some older and some younger than Jeffy, with ALL, I think it really opened his eyes. While Steven is looking around and everything he's seeing is really hitting him hard, he sees something that really hits home - a girl his age with beautiful eyes and a bald head.
Her name is Samantha and she was about Seven's age with ALL. Steven meets a girl who changes his life when he's in the cancer ward at the hospital. Samantha really talks to Steven and I think the way she talked to him and the way she choose her words helped Steven prove to himself that he really is a man.

I agree with Alyssa. She has some very strong points. And I think that she really beileved in Stevens character from the beginning (:

I agree with Adrienne. I think that Steven has changed through out the book and that she really grasped the main points.

When Steven visits the hospital he saw many kids younger then Jeffrey and kids his age and he felt bad for them.Seeing this makes him more of a man because that was the first time he actually thought of someone other them himself. You can also tell that he is turning into a man because when his dad told him that they could do the benfit concert but, he wouldn't be there he didn't get too mad about it.

At the hospital he meets a girl his age that has ALL just like Jeffrey, her name is Samantha. He discovers that her and her sister used to be really close but when she went to collage they barley even talk even more. So she has no one besides her mom to help her get through this. This makes Steven relize that he needed to be there for Jeffrey no matter what. This makes more of a man because he make it his job to watch out for Jeffrey and be there for him.

Christina H. said...

I agree with Madeline when she said I think seeing all this makes Steven realize that he actually has it pretty good. I agree with her because i think that was another reason he was becoming a man because he was starting to feel bad for all of the kids.

Steven’s visit to the hospital in Philadelphia has changed him because before he goes, he doesn’t realize that he should think about others before himself. Before the trip Steven is all about himself and very self-centered, but after the trip, he also realizes that there are other people out there that are in worse condition than he is. This makes in more of a “man” because he once again realizes that everything isn’t all about himself anymore. If the trip hadn’t made him more of a “man” then he wouldn’t have gotten very far in the real world. Now people will want to be around him more since he isn’t all about himself.

What Steven sees in the hospital are a lot of kids of all ages. Some are sicker than others, but seeing all these sick kids showed Steven more of what kids who have cancer go through at the hospital. That helped show Steven that he shouldn’t be so self-centered.

Steven met a girl in the hospital who had cancer and was about the same age as he was. Her name was Samantha. She showed Steven that his life wasn’t so bad. Her life without her sister and having cancer was way worse than his. This made him realize that he shouldn’t be all about him-self.

I agree with Maddy S. on how Steven "realizes that he is very lucky to always have family by his side." I think Steven does have a good supporting family by his side no matter what.

When Steven visits the hospital in Philadlphia, he finally becomes a "man." He starts to care about other people more than himself. He realizes that Jeffrey's cancer is a very serious problem and that he is thinking of it in a different way now.
When he gets to the hospital, he sees may children and their families at the hospital. Many have the same cancer as Jeffrey. One person that he sees is a girl named Samatha and she has ALL like Jeffrey. When he sees sll the sick kids, he realizes that their situtions are a lot worse than his.

Lucas S. said...

I agree with Devyn C. that Steven has it better than a lot of kids at the hospital. He also knows that some of them don't have much longer.

Once Steven visits the hospital, he realizes that there are many other people that are in a worse condition than he is. This changes him into a “man” because he starts to thing of others before himself after seeing all the kids that were extremely sick. Before the trip, he only thought about how bad things were going for him.

When Steven gets to the hospital, he sees sick kids of all ages. He sees people that are worse than Jeffery and healthier than him too. Steven meets one girl about his age named Samantha. When he saw her, he was shocked. She taught him that life wasn’t so bad after all. Her sister never gets to see her anymore so Samantha makes him promise to stay with Jeffery no matter what. Seeing this, he finds out that others are in a far worse position than he is. This makes him appreciate what he had. Steven had become a “man” by going to the hospital with his dad and Jeffery.

Emilie E. said...

I agree with Christina. You can also tell that Steven is turning into more of a man when he doesn’t get angry when his dad told him that he wouldn’t be able to go to the benefit concert. I think that after the trip to the hospital, Steven becomes more mature.

Steven's trip to the hospital has matured him a lot. He finally realizes everything Jeffrey and his mother have gone through.

Steven sees many kids with cancer when he gets to the hospital. He sees how hard it is for everyone involved with cancer.

Steven meets Samantha. She has ALL and his Steven's age. She tells him to promise that he will stay with Jeffrey through all of the cancer. I think that by promising and keeping his promis he is becoming a better person.

Samantha A. said...

I agree that with Madeline that seeing all of the kids with cancer has made him realize that he has it pretty easy. I think this will help him think of other people more.

When Steven visits the hospital, he realizes that he needs to step up, take some responsibility, and be there for his little brother. Also, while at the hospital, he meets a girl around his age named Samantha. Samantha, like Jeffrey, had been diagnosed with ALL. She and Steven have a nice, long talk about how the cancer had affected he and her family, and about how it had affected Steven. The things Steven saw and heard at the hospital made him realize that Mrs. Galley was right. He needed to not agonize over the things he can't change, but focus on the things he can.

Alex E. said...

I agree with Emilie in that, Seeing all those cancer patients made Steven realize that he could be in worse condition, and that at that time is when Steven starts thinking of others before himself. A prime example is toward the end of the book when Steven leaves his concert which was supposed to be "His big night," to be with Jeffrey. That shows true character.

Garrret L. said...

The visit to the hospital help Steven become a man because it shows him what is really going on were Jeffrey gets his treatments. One person steven meets at the hospital is Samantha. Samantha makes steven become more of a man because she makes him promis to stay with his brother no matter what. That makes Steven make better decisions later in the story. What steven see is all the kids with leukimia and it makes him feel sorry for them and the one that bothers him the most is the girl about his age.

Garret L. said...

I agree with Elliot that the trips to the hospital makes steven mature into a man in many ways.
